The City Arts Commission is making this a summer packed full of art and music for the Newport Beach community.  Save the dates for the following special events:
Newport Beach Art Exhibition.
Saturday, June 15, 1-6 p.m., Newport Beach Civic Center, 100 Civic Center Drive
For 55 years, the Newport Beach City Arts Commission has recognized the talent and contributions of local and regional artists by hosting a juried art exhibition that gives the community the opportunity to view and purchase the art on display, mingle with the artists and enjoy a festive atmosphere of music, wine and art. The 2019 Newport Beach Art Exhibition will feature over 250 original works of art, including paintings in categories of watercolors (includes pencil and ink drawings), oils and acrylics, sculpture and 3D mixed media, and photography.
2019 Concerts on the Green
The City Arts Commission presents another series of “Concerts on the Green” during the summer of 2019. All of the concerts are held on Sundays, beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m.  They are free and open to the public with free parking available in the adjacent Civic Center parking structure and Central Library parking lot. Bring low-slung beach chairs and a picnic dinner or purchase food from food trucks at the Civic Center to enjoy the concert atmosphere.

After years of independent successful music careers and admiration for one another, Charlie Colin (Train), Stan Frazier (Sugar Ray), and Joel & Scott Owen (PawnShop kings), brought their talents and passion for great music together in a band called The SIDE DEAL. They will kick off the Concerts on the Green series with a rock performance that includes familiar and revamped renditions of their global hits such as Train’s “Drops of Jupiter,” “Calling All Angels,” & “Meet Virginia,” and Sugar Ray’s “Fly,” “Someday,” and “Every Morning” and brand new Side Deal originals.
Smith Country Band: Sunday, July 7, 2019, 6-7:30 p.m., Civic Center Green, 100 Civic Center Drive
SMITH is a six-piece pop country music group from Southern California that performs hits from artists such as Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert to Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett. SMITH rocks modern country with classics, creating a sound and energy that will have you up on your feet dancing.
Queen Nation: Sunday, August 25, 2019, 6-7:30 p.m., Civic Center Green, 100 Civic Center Drive
In a tribute to one of the most iconic groups in rock history, QUEEN NATION recreates the image, sound and energy of a live Queen concert. Gregory Finsley, Mike McManus, Pete Burke, and Parker Combs pay remarkable homage to the legendary band with songs like “We Will Rock You,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,”  “We Are The Champions,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Another One Bites The Dust.”
Flashback Heart Attack: Sunday, September 15, 2019, 6-7:30 p.m., Civic Center Green, 100 Civic Center Drive
Repeat winners of the best live band/best rock band/best tribute awards in Orange County, FLASHBACK HEART ATTACK brings the authentic 80’s cover band experience to the Newport Beach Civic Center. The local Orange County band that has made it big, nationally and internationally, will out some fire in the end of summer with a playlist that includes all the great 80’s hits.
Sculpture Exhibition Grand Opening
Saturday, June 22, 1-5 p.m., Newport Beach Civic Center, 100 Civic Center Drive
The Newport Beach City Arts Commission will hold a grand opening celebration for Phase IV of the Sculpture Exhibition in the Civic Center Park. The event will celebrate the addition of ten new sculptures selected to be on display in the Civic Center Park for two years. A special presentation will be held in Council Chambers, accompanied by refreshments and art activities.  Some of the artists will be on hand to talk about their artwork and visitors will be able to take a walking tour of the sculptures.
